Distribution: Sumatra, Panaitan and Java.

Ecology: Open forested country.

Synonym: F. melas; F. variegata.

Common Name: Leopard.

Vernacular Name: Macan tutul; Macan kumbang; Kerut, Maung hidieung, Maung Tablo (Sunda); Macan Tol-tol, Macan Kombeng (Madura).

Distribution: Panaitan, Java and Kangean Islands.

Status: CITES - Appendix I; U.S. ESA - Endangered; IUCN - Endangered as P. p. melas.

Status Indonesia: Protected.

 

5. Panthera sondaica javanica

Author: Linnaeus, 1758 (Felis tigris).

Synonym: Panthera tigris sondaica (Temmick)

Common Name: Tiger.

Vernacular Name: Harimau (Ind.); Gembong, Macan Loreng, Kyaine, Simbahe (Jawa); Maung Turih Tempe, Maung Balarak Sengkled, Maung Siliwangi (Sunda); Macan Rajeh, Lareng koneng, Lareng Kenik, Sruni (Madura).

Distribution: Java (add.PKJ: in java is still now)

Status: CITES - Appendix I; U.S. ESA and IUCN – Critically; Extink as P. t.sondaica.

Status Indonesia: Protected.

Remarks: Last reliable record for Java 1979. (add.PKJ record tiger killing in Java by local hunter in 2004, 2008 & 2009).

Author: Kerr, 1792 (Felis bengalensis).

Synonym: F. javanensis; F. minuta; F.punctulata; F. sumatrana; F. tingia.

Common Name: Leopard cat.

Vernacular Name: Kucing hutan; Blacan, Gracan, Macan Rembah, Macan Cecep (Jawa); Meong congkok (Sunda), Macan Ren-rem (Madura).

Distribution: Sumatra, Kalimantan, Java, Karimunjawa Islands, Bali and Lombok.

Ecology: Forests, plantations and suburban habitats; terrestrial; nocturnal.

Status: CITES - Appendix I as Felis bengalensis bengalensis; otherwise Appendix II. U.S. ESA - Endangered.

Status Indonesia: Protected as F. bengalensis.

 

7. Prionailurus viverrinus

Author: Bennett, 1833 (Felis viverrinus).

Common Name: Fishing cat.

Vernacular Name: Kucing bakau.

Distribution: Java; possibly Sumatra.

Ecology: Water-side habitats with dense cover.

Status: CITES - Appendix II; IUCN - Lower risk: near threatened.

Status Indonesia: Protected as F. viverrinus.

Ecology : Mainly diurnal and terrestrial.

Distribution: Sumatra, Riau and Lingga Islands, Kalimantan, Laut, Java and Karimunjawa Islands; possibly Mentawai Islands.

Ecology : Streams; diurnal.

Status: CITES - Appendix II; IUCN - Lower risk: near threatened.

 

10. Lutrogale perspicillata

Author: Geoffroy, 1826 (Lutra perspicillata).

Synonym: L. simung.

Common Name: Smooth-coated otter.

Vernacular Name: Berang-berang bulu licin, Wergul.

Distribution: Sumatra, W and C Java and Kalimantan.

Ecology: Streams.

Status: CITES - Appendix II; IUCN - Vulnerable as Lutra perspicillata.

Remarks: Endemic.

Common Name: Javan stink badger.

Vernacular Name: Sigung; Teledu.

Distribution: Sumatra, Natuna Islands, Kalimantan and Java.

Ecology: Terrestrial; nocturnal.

Status Indonesia: Protected.

Remarks: Endemic.

Ecology: Ground to canopy; diurnal; on Java between 1500-2600 m.

Status: IUCN - Endangered as M.f. robinsoni.

Common Name: Indonesian mountain weasel.

Vernacular Name: Mermer.

Distribution: Java and S Sumatra.

Ecology: Terrestrial; mostly above 1000 m.

Status: IUCN - Endangered.

Remarks: Endemic.

Distribution: Sumatra, Mentawai Islands, Kalimantan, Panaitan, Java, Madura, Bawean, Kangean Islands and Bali; (probably) introduced to Simeulue, Sulawesi, Lombok, Sumbawa, Komodo, Flores, Sumba, Timor, Wetar, Bacan, Halmahera, Seram, Sula, Kai and Aru Islands; Irian Jaya.

Ecology: Secondary growth, plantations and human settlements; nocturnal; terrestrial and arboreal.
